Day 1 AM: October 13, 2010—Introduction

Introduction to The Trail of Time: Judy Bryan and Karl Karlstrom conveners
Timed 10 minute “pop-up” talks to generate lively 5 minute discussions

8:45- 9:00: Welcome – Judy Bryan (GCNP) and Karl Karlstrom (UNM)
9:00- 9:15: – Deep Time – interpreting decades of research on a “young” canyon carved into very old rocks-- Karl Karlstrom (UNM)
9:15- 9:30: The Million Year Trail—links to Human timescales-- water issues, climate change and other societal issues- Laura Crossey (UNM)
9:30-9:45: How visitors think about Geologic Time: Laughing with them, not at them. Mike Williams (UMass)
9:45-10:00- Laurie Crossey and Bob Lillie (OSU)– divide into NPS working groups
10:00-10:30: break
10:30-10:45: The Trail of Time -- a laboratory for informal geoscience learning- Steve Semken (ASU)
10:45-11:00: Visitor Experiences on the Trail of Time: A Snapshot from the Summative Evaluation– Deborah Perry (Selinda Research Associates)
11:00- 11:30- Keynote speaker – The importance of the Geosciences and Science Education- Paul Hoffman (Harvard)
12:00-2:00 PM Catered lunch with breakout groups and posters– introductions and organize goals, working groups sit together

Day 1 PM: Oct 13, 2010: The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

3:00- 5:00 PM- Unstructured walk along the Trail of Time – Park Interpreters stationed along the Trail
6-9 PM—Catered dinner at the Park Headquarters

Day 2 AM: October 14, 2010: Informal Geoscience Education

11:00- 12:00- final summary and future plans for the “white paper”
